Plasma Surrounding Central Black Hole Not Swirling as Fast as Suspected

At the center of the Perseus galaxy cluster — a swarm of thousands of galaxies that spans 2 million light years across and is one of the most massive known objects in the universe — a black hole is attempting to stir things up, blowing giant bubbles and jets and ripples of gas out into the galactic plasma.

MPQ Researchers Obtain Evidence of Many-Body Localization in Closed Quantum System

Now a team of scientists around Dr. Christian Groß and Professor Immanuel Bloch (Director at MPQ and Chair of Quantum Optics at LMU Munich), in cooperation with David Huse (Princeton University), has obtained evidence of such a behaviour in a two-dimensional quantum system of cold rubidium atoms trapped in an optical lattice (Science, 24 June 2016).
