Aggressive ‘Electric Wind’ in Planets Removes Atmospheres and Oceans

A recent study conducted by a team of researchers belonging to NASA and UCL illustrated that a strong ‘electric wind’ across Venus is capable of removing the components of water from the planet’s upper atmosphere. This could have played a major part in the removal of the planet’s oceans.

Researchers Use Quantum Calculations to Discover Previously Unknown Features of Rutile

Using numerical modelling, researchers from Russia, the US, and China have discovered previously unknown features of rutile TiO2, which is a promising photocatalyst. The calculations were performed at an MIPT laboratory on the supercomputer Rurik. The paper detailing the results has been published in the journal Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics.

Researchers Fine Tune Technique for Identifying Quantum Entanglement

A team of quantum computing researchers from RMIT have formulated and illustrated a technique that can effectively identify high-dimensional entanglement. In quantum physics, entanglement can be defined as the capacity of two or more particles to be linked to each other in ways which are outside the realm of classical physics. Data regarding a particle found in an entangled ensemble offers an 'unnatural' amount of data on the other particles.

A team of astronomers from all over the world have discovered that there are many more planets similar to the hot Jupiter type than expected in a cluster of stars known as Messier 67.
