QDev and QuTech Enter Partnership for Research in Quantum Technologies

Research collaboration What do you do when you have two of the leading giants in the same research field? – compete with each other? – fight each other? – no, you start collaborating. The Center for Quantum Devices, QDev at the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen and QuTech at Delft University of Technology in Holland have therefore entered into an international partnership in the research of quantum technologies. The collaboration will be celebrated with an official ceremony with the attendence of ministers from both countries and the Dutch royal couple.

ATLAS and CMS Present Combination of Results on Mass of Higgs Boson

Today during the 50th session of "Rencontres de Moriond" in La Thuile Italy, ATLAS and CMS presented for the first time a combination of their results on the mass of the Higgs boson. The combined mass of the Higgs boson is mH = 125.09 ± 0.24 (0.21 stat. ± 0.11 syst.) GeV, which corresponds to a measurement precision of better than 0.2 percent.

ASU Origins Project Honors Groundbreaking Work in Exploring Astrophysics of the Early Universe

The Origins Project at Arizona State University awarded its first Postdoctoral Prize Lectureship to Adrian Liu of the University of California, Berkeley. The award, the largest of its kind in the world, is in recognition of Liu’s groundbreaking early career work in exploring the astrophysics of the early universe. It includes a $10,000 prize.

Physicists Collaborate to Perform Complex Accelerator Simulations for Developing World’s Highest Intensity Particle Beams

On March 2, 1995, just below and unbeknownst to the small herd of bison that graze the grounds of Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), protons and antiprotons raced toward each other at energies near the speed of light. Two detectors within the four mile-long tube of Fermilab’s Tevatron captured those impacts, revealing to physicists, for the first time, the top quark.
