Researchers Link Concept of Spin Transport to Magnetization Dynamics

Physicists at the University of Groningen, together with colleagues from Utrecht and Brest, have discovered a new principle governing how information is sent between electronic circuits. This could also help generate electricity more efficiently from temperature differences. The results were published on 14 September in the journal Nature Physics.

Oriol Romero-Isart's research group studies topics in the fields of theoretical quantum physics, and, in particular, focuses on quantum information processing, quantum simulation, and the foundations of quantum mechanics. ITIC and SK Telecom Enter MoU to Develop Quantum Cryptography Technologies

The International Transportation Innovation Center (ITIC) in Greenville, S.C. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SK Telecom to collaborate in the development of quantum cryptography technologies. With the rise of the Internet of Things (IoT) in an increasingly connected world, cryptography technology is being touted as a possible solution to a whole new set of security challenges in the IoT era. Under the MoU, ITIC and SK Telecom will jointly develop and pursue standardization of hacking-prevention technologies to protect connected vehicles.

International Daya Bay Collaboration Announces New Findings on Neutrino Measurements

In the Daya Bay region of China, about 55 kilometers northeast of Hong Kong, a research project is underway to study ghostlike, elusive particles called neutrinos. Today, the international Daya Bay Collaboration announces new findings on the measurements of neutrinos, paving the way forward for further neutrino research, and confirming that the Daya Bay neutrino experiment continues to be one to watch.

PhD candidate Matt Shultz has discovered the first massive binary star, epsilon Lupi, in which both stars have magnetic fields. A binary star is a star system consisting of two or more stars, orbiting around their common centre of mass.

Strongest Magnetic Coupling Could be Broken Within Picoseconds

Future computers will require a magnetic material which can be manipulated ultra-rapidly by breaking the strong magnetic coupling. A study has been published in Nature Communications today in which Swedish and German scientists demonstrate that even the strongest magnetic coupling may be broken within picoseconds(10 raised to -12 s). This will open up an exciting new area of research.

Rare Galaxy Cluster Beast Bursting with New Stars

Astronomers have discovered a rare beast of a galaxy cluster whose heart is bursting with new stars. The unexpected find, made with the help of NASA's Spitzer and Hubble space telescopes, suggests that behemoth galaxies at the cores of these massive clusters can grow significantly by feeding off gas stolen from another galaxy.

Saturn's F Ring and Shepherd Satellites Could be Natural Outcome of Satellite System Formation

HYODO Ryuki, a second-year student in the Doctoral Program, and Professor OHTSUKI Keiji of the Graduate School of Science at Kobe University have revealed that Saturn's F ring and its shepherd satellites are natural outcome of the final stage of formation of Saturn's satellite system. Their finding has been published online in Nature Geoscience on August 17.
