‘Single-Photon-Switch’ Could Aid Development of Quantum Logic Gate

The idea to perform data processing with light, without relying on any electronic components, has been around for quite some time. In fact, necessary components such as optical transistors are available. However, up to now they have not gained a lot of attention from computer companies. This could change in the near future as packing densities of electronic devices as well as clock frequencies of electronic computers are about to reach their limits.

Quantum Logic Spectroscopy Extended to Photon-Recoil Spectroscopy

Quantum logic spectroscopy – which is closely linked with the name of the 2012 Nobel prize laureate, David J. Wineland – has been significantly extended: this new method is called "photon-recoil spectroscopy" (PRS). The potential of this method has been demonstrated by the research group led by Piet Schmidt from the QUEST Institute, which is based at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, together with colleagues from Leibniz University Hannover.

New Ultra-Miniaturized Quantum Cascade Laser Products from Block Engineering

Block Engineering, the leader in Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) instrumentation, announced today the release of two ultra-miniaturized QCL products, the Mini-QCL (TM) Module and the new LaserTune (TM) Infrared Source. The Mini-QCL is a widely-tunable QCL module for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), weighing only 75 grams (~2.5 oz). Block's next-generation LaserTune has been miniaturized to a compact (16.5 × 12.7 × 11 cm), wirelessly-controllable system, while offering the widest contiguous tuning range available on the market (greater than 1000 cm-1).

Quantum Biosystems Releases First Read Data Using Quantum Single Molecule Sequencing

Quantum Biosystems today announced the release of raw data access to its first reads. The company released reads showing an accuracy of more than 99% in non-homopolymer regions and homopolymer indels at a rate of ~10%. This release allows researchers to evaluate the platform and engage in its validation and development. It marks a major milestone in the single molecule electrical sequencing of DNA.
