Berkeley Lab’s Superheavy-Element Research Team Does Chemistry One Atom at a Time

It’s now more or less official: element 117 will have a seat at the periodic table. Earlier this month an international team of scientists that included researchers from Lawrence Berkeley National Lab’s Nuclear Science Division found two atoms of superheavy element 117.

Water Molecules Caged in Fullerene Spheres Provide Deeper Insight into Spin Isomers

In a new paper in the Journal of Chemical Physics, produced by AIP Publishing, a research team in the United Kingdom and the United States describes how water molecules "caged" in fullerene spheres ("buckyballs") are providing a deeper insight into spin isomers -- varieties of a molecule that differ in their nuclear spin.

Toshiba Corporation today announced that it has concluded a contract with the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) for the manufacture of toroidal field coils for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) being constructed in Cadarache, France.

DOE Brookhaven Lab Accelerator Physicist to be Honored as Distinguished Asian American Professional

Wu-Tsung (Bill) Weng, an accelerator physicist at the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Brookhaven National Laboratory, will be honored as a distinguished Asian American professional at a ceremony to be held on May 24, 2014 at the Sixth Annual Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Celebration at Vajiradhammapadip Buddhist Temple and Thai Cultural Center in Centereach. Weng will accept a proclamation from Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone at the ceremony, which commences at 4 p.m.
