French Researcher Awarded Paolo Farinella Prize for Studies on Composition of Comets

The fifth “Paolo Farinella Prize” has been awarded in 2015 to Dr Nicolas Biver, a French researcher at the Observatoire de Paris, Meudon, for his studies of the composition of comets through ground and space observations. The award ceremony was hosted today at the opening of the European Planetary Science Congress (EPSC) 2015, at the La Cité des Congrès, in Nantes, France. The ceremony included a public lecture by Biver on the topic "Diversity in composition amongst the comet family".

Researchers Simulate Chiral Edge States in Atomic Quantum Gas

Researchers in Florence and Innsbruck have simulated a physical phenomenon in an atomic quantum gas that can also be observed at the edge of some condensed matter systems: chiral currents. The scientists have published the experiment, which will open new doors for the study of exotic states in condensed matter, in the journal Science.

Pairs of Supermassive Black Holes in Giant Galaxies are More Rare than Previously Thought

There may be fewer pairs of supermassive black holes orbiting each other at the cores of giant galaxies than previously thought, according to a new study by researchers at Brandeis and at the Raman Research Institute who analyzed data from the National Science Foundation's Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) radio telescope.
