Superconducting Chips to Scale Up Quantum Computers and Boost Supercomputers

Superconducting processors could become a key ingredient for next generation of supercomputers. First, they could help tackling the major challenge of scaling up quantum computers. Second, they could speed up traditional supercomputers and remarkably cut their power consumption. A multidisciplinary research project led by VTT will tackle one of the main challenges of this solution: data transfer to and from low temperatures that are required for superconductivity.

IQuAn – Combining High Performance Computing and Quantum Computing

Partners from academia and industry, led by the University of Mainz, have started a collaborative research project with the ambitious goal to build a quantum computer, interface it with an existing supercomputer and also enable access to external users. Providing access to external parties is an important goal and a major step in bringing quantum computers out of the laboratory. This will stimulate applications and support the industry in finding solutions to certain complex problems, where quantum computers have a clear edge over classical computers.

QUASAR Project Aims to Lay the Foundations for Industrial Production of Quantum Processors

The quantum computer race is in full swing. Germany has long been one of the world leaders in basic research. An alliance between Forschungszentrum Jülich and the semiconductor manufacturer Infinion, together with institutes of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (IAF, IPMS) as well as the Leibniz Association (IHP, IKZ), the universities of Regensburg and Konstanz and the quantum start-up HQS, now aims to apply the results to industrial production.
