TCL Introduces New 4K UHD TV Equipped with QD Vision’s Color IQ Technology

In an industry first, TCL today introduced a 55-inch full-gamut 4K UHD TV with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price at one-third the cost of comparable OLED color televisions.

All consumers of entertainment, whether for gaming, movies or other programming, can now enhance their viewing experience with deeper, sharper and more natural color at an accessible price. The QD (Quantum Dots) plus LED television shatters the prohibitively high price barrier of OLED TVs, previously the only other technology to provide consumers with the richness of a full-gamut color viewing experience.

Equipped with QD Vision’s Color IQ™ technology, the new TCL 55-inch 4K UHD TV delivers crisp 100% NTSC color gamut performance that establishes a new standard of color performance that consumers will now expect from all viewing experiences. TCL is the world’s third best-selling television brand, and QD Vision is the leading manufacturer of quantum dot optical components for HDTVs and other LCD products. The new TVs will initially be available in China, followed by additional worldwide availability. They are on display this week at TCL’s IFA booth, Hall 21b / Stand 104.

“We are pleased to extend our relationship with QD Vision to the exciting new 4K UHD world. The addition of QD technology to our 4K televisions will offer great value to consumers who want to enjoy the advanced picture quality with vivid colors and shaper images,” said E. Hao, CEO of TCL Multimedia.

“Many TV manufacturers are launching 4K TVs this year. TCL’s bold leadership recognizes that adding full-gamut color at an accessible price creates a really strong differentiator, and a superior value for TCL customers,” said Jason Carlson, QD Vision CEO. “TVs with full-gamut color really stand out in the show room. Customers can easily tell the difference in performance, and will understand they are getting a TV with much better image quality. This is a world-class system that sets a high bar for the rest of the industry. TCL recognizes that providing consumers a superior-quality viewing experience at an affordable price will drive steady market-share growth.”

Color IQ is QD Vision’s innovative semiconductor nanocrystal technology that enables Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) to achieve full-gamut 100% NTSC color performance. The combination of QD Vision’s quantum dot innovation, in-house, high-volume manufacturing operations and exceptional customer service enables TCL to deliver full-gamut color TV models at LCD TV prices.

Research shows that “colorfulness” is the single most important perceptual factor in viewers’ estimation of picture quality. Until now, most mainstream LCD TV designs have had to sacrifice color quality, typically only delivering 60-70% of the NTSC color gamut standard. Color IQ is capable of delivering 100% of the NTSC color gamut, and works with all major LCD applications, including LCD TVs, LCD monitors and other displays, providing both superior color performance and high system efficiency. Full-gamut color displays enabled by cost-effective quantum dot technology deliver vibrant colorfulness and 100% accuracy, and are poised for universal adoption in the coming years.
